I've been wanting my family unit to start liking Indian food but they've always found the curries to be a bit strong. This Recipe is perfect starting point. They all loved it. Then here'due south my fiendish plan (as I laugh maniacally ): gradually over the adjacent v years I'll add together more and more curry pulverisation and by the end of the 5 years they'll be begging for vindaloo!
ten/sixteen/2013
Good stuff! I halved the recipe and I still have a ton of left overs! I reduced the amount of Serrano chili and cayenne pepper. I besides added a little flake of curry pulverization and Balti seasoning. I threw in fresh cut upwardly cauliflower instead of the peas. Served over cooked jasmine rice. YUMM! Will exist making once again.
04/08/2013
This was delicious and even better the second solar day. Diced the potatoes fairly small to be same sized as the peas. I halved information technology all except for the diced tomatoes and served information technology over basmati rice. Look forward to making this once again.
03/eighteen/2016
This was seriously one of the all-time meals I've ever made! I doubled the onion, cumin, and coriander, and tripled the garlic, cilantro, and garam masala (added two/3 with other spices and one/3 at the end). I used pureed tomatoes rather than chopped, and used rutabega instead of potatoes. Served over basmati rice. Eating leftovers today for dejeuner and practically drooling! Will make a million more times.
xi/23/2017
Very tasty. Flavors are deep and exotic. While I served this as intended (direct on the plate) I too stuffed some of the mixture into hollowed out small-scale/medium zucchini'southward and roasted them off....really nice and filling.
x/12/2013
Absolutely incredible flavor! This was pure comfort food. I used an boilerplate size tin can of tomatoes instead of the large can the recipe chosen for. I didn't accept whatever cilantro or peas on hand, substituted stale ginger for fresh, and this recipe was AMAZING!!!! Served it over jasmine rice. OH, WOW. But wow.
11/08/2015
Was neat. I had to cook information technology a picayune longer to go the potatoes tender then I added an 8 oz. can of tomatoe sauce to keep it saucy.
05/07/2014
This recipe was super piece of cake to make last minute! I modified information technology just a tad, considering I didnt have all of the ingredients that the recipe called for (I was missing the fresh ginger or cilantro, and so I used powdered and dried. And I didnt have garam masala. So i found a recipe on here and used that to make my own.) I served over basmati rice. DH and my 2 year onetime LOVED it! :)
03/20/2017
I made this this night for the first time. It was simply succulent. I went to Trader Joe's intending to pick up naan and mango chutney. Well, I wasn't paying attending and ended upward picking upwardly whole wheat pita instead. It was still scrumptious. I highly recommend it.
10/25/2017
This recipe was a surprise for us. I have never fabricated an Indian dish before only I knew we loved all of the ingredients this recipe called for. Our only substitute was a red onion in place of a Spanish onion. I also tripled the cilantro bc we love cilantro. Even our teenage kids loved it. Nifty depth of flavors. Thank you for a great recipe. Will definitely brand over again.
x/09/2016
Perfect recipe! Very tasty and like shooting fish in a barrel to brand! Thanks for sharing!
02/03/2015
Oh, my gosh! This was and so good! I've been making Keema Alu with another (well-known) cookbook'south recipe for years and dear this dish. This recipe from Allrecipes is just as yummy. My kids say this one is non as spicy as my other recipe, which pleases one kid but not the others. Nosotros serve ours with rice, a salad, and naan. I grind my own spices, except for the garam masala, and so they are really fresh. (I exercise this in a small coffee grinder.) The Serrano pepper I used was ripe red. To save time, you could use ginger paste found in the produce department. Nosotros probably consume this dish at least once every 3 weeks.
02/06/2019
We actually enjoyed this and will definitely brand information technology again. I did not add a Serrano chili - none available - and I only used 1/2 tsp of cayenne - I'k a coward. Thanks for sharing. A little update - tastes even better the following solar day!
02/06/2018
Very rich and thick flavour kinda' like old school hamburg helper... but Indian LOL! Lots of kids around here to fill up up and then none of the 'hot' ingredients went in and I added an extra onion or two, a few extra potatoes, an extra can of tomatoes, and a bit more than of each spice and twice the salt. Also similar 3 cups of peas probably went in. Very good flavour... love it. Will serve over Basmati made in smallish Zojirushi with 1.5 cups water to 1 loving cup rice ratio on brown setting, eh!
01/14/2014
This was only okay. I did forget to put the peas in at the end so they may have added something manifestly. The flavour was good, it but didn't jump out at me. I added some inexpensive hot sauce on my plate and that improved it.
06/09/2018
I really liked this dish! Information technology was easy to make & tasted fantastic! You could definitely taste the curry & turmeric flavors in information technology! Delish!
12/09/2014
A very flavorful recipe. I diced the potatoes and used green beans in identify of peas.
09/27/2017
This is very good. I look forward to trying information technology the next twenty-four hour period as I am sure it volition be more tasty. I establish it to be likewise much meat and not enough content - so I added an extra cup of peas and and so a 19oz tin can of chickpeas to make it more substantive.
11/14/2017
So easy. so cheap and incredibly good. Follow recipe, as is, the first time. It volition exist great. So brand your heat adjustments. Serve on rice (optional), only have to take a squeamish chutney, and popadums. Left overs are equally good.
02/07/2017
I think this is my commencement Indian dish with basis beef... not so mutual. I did increase the spices, only that was near the merely personalizing. Used ginger paste as I couldn't discover fresh. Cut the potatoes small every bit mentioned by others and then it cooks more speedily. This dish doesn't quite stack upward to a chicken tikka masala or veggie korma, only it is delicious comfort food and very easy to put together.
02/21/2018
My family really liked this and my married man raved about it after taking the leftovers for dejeuner the adjacent day!
11/nineteen/2017
I made it exactly how it was explained. Collingwood directions were very clear and elementary. It was my first time cooking and I enjoyed it. Thank you for sharing this recipe
03/22/2018
Added a few more potatoes and hot peppers.
03/27/2018
I really liked the flavour of this dish, merely the cook times were all off. Onions/beef didn't need as much fourth dimension, potatoes needed WAY more time. I would add the potatoes much before, or parboil them. But with that said, yummy!
02/21/2018
Excellent spices. Came out great!
09/18/2014
I was actually happy with this recipe. I left out the serrano chili pepper considering information technology would've been besides spicy for my kids merely it still had a little bite to it. I'll definitely be making this over again!
06/20/2018
This was very tasty! Next time, I would chop the potatoes smaller than one/ii inch cubes so that they volition melt faster and blend into this dish even better.
03/03/2017
This was delicious. Rather easy and full of flavour. I followed the recipe, minus the serrano pepper because I didn't take one, and only had a bit over a pound of ground beef, and the 15 oz can of diced tomatoes. I all the same have leftovers, which makes me happy. Fantabulous. I volition make this once again.
04/03/2018
It was very practiced and yes I will make it once again.
eleven/09/2017
Yum, used sweet spud instead of irish potato. Information technology was spicy...had some Nan every bit a starch. Will make again.
01/22/2019
This was delicious. I made it as written, without the pepper as my grocery store was sold out. Information technology came out succulent, I enjoyed the curry flavors mixed with the tomatoes. Non horribly spicy but hopefully next time with the pepper will add a boot to it. Still I would recommend microwaving your potatoes partially before adding to the skillet to cook with the residuum of the ingredients. They did not come out tender as I had hoped, even later adding more sauce to completely cover them, cooking longer and following other reviewers' suggestions to cutting small. This makes for very good leftovers with some naan staff of life!
08/06/2017
I never really mensurate anything. But I did utilise all the ingredients, including the Garam masala, which was pretty hard to find in my pocket-size urban center (I got lucky), and it was a total hit. I served it with couscous and take tons left over. I LOVE Indian food and how bursting in season this repast was. Thanks so much for sharing!
01/07/2019
I beloved this recipe and it is flexible. I usually practise my larger batch mild and then I add based on how I utilize information technology. Sometimes it'south merely with basmati rice. Sometimes I like it with my eggs in the morning. Dandy on tostadas. I keep information technology prepped in my freezer for days when I demand some protein and have no fourth dimension.
07/21/2013
Almost similar my mom'southward :)
01/10/2015
Piece of cake recipe to make, tasted fabulous, and the leftovers are a great luncheon the next day. My simply change was eliminating the Serrano and halving the cayenne, since I am a lightweight when it comes to heat. It gave me the Indian food flavors I was craving, without having to worry about what a eating place considered "mildly" spicy. Great commencement venture into making this genre of food at habitation. Thank you for posting the recipe, Meataterian!
06/27/2017
I love this recipe! I left out the cayenne for my six twelvemonth old thou daughter, she loved it! We put a piddling hot sauce on ours.I made mine in the crock pot. It tastes fifty-fifty better the next twenty-four hours. I used the leftovers for meat pie filling. Volition definitely make this once more!
09/03/2020
This was wonderful. I didn't have a Serrano pepper so I omitted information technology. I'm not a fan of besides much estrus. Instead of potatoes ( going low carb) I used frozen cauliflower that I thawed before adding. For most of the spices I used heaping spoons (except the blood-red pepper) every bit I love the flavors. I cooked information technology for the times suggested but I kind of thought it was overkill. It tasted amazing. Definite volition make it again. I was agape the cauliflower would exist overpowering only it wasn't at all. The spices overpowered it. Lol.
09/21/2018
I made the full recipe for a dinner party, only I left out the Serrano republic of chile and cilantro, due to the taste preferences of my friends. Per one reviewer's recommendation, I added in garbanzo beans, and they added a delicious flavor and a nice contrast to the other ingredients' textures. I as well used local grass-fed beef, and the dish was a large hit. My family and friends loved information technology, so I'll definitely exist making it again. Excellent for leftovers!
07/fourteen/2017
I made this recipe exactly every bit stated the start time. It was a definite keeper! Each additional time I made it I tweaked it a little, as I wanted information technology even more spicy. Bang-up recipe thanks for sharing.
01/23/2018
Fantastic and very easy to brand.
02/21/2018
Wow I guess Meatetarian actually does like meat! two lbs. of ground beefiness and 3 potatoes?? I used less then a pound of the meat and used about 5 red potatoes (not peeled). Other and then that I stuck to the recipe just I did add cauliflower since I had a lot of it, and 1 chopped carrot. I didn't want just a "meat and potatoes" dish. Married man and I both liked it merely we idea it had as well much cumin. He'due south not a fan of it so side by side time I'll add just a dash of information technology. I did use more spices so it called for. I will make it again.
xi/xix/2017
I went crazy over this dish after making it! This was my first attempt at making any Indian dish and this was a just/delicious enough dish to become my feet moisture. I'chiliad usually pretty wimpy when it comes to heat/spicy, but this one had just enough with the serrano pepper, selantro, and chili pulverization to give it a kick, but still be enjoyable. My only regret is that I didn't go more naan to scope it up with. Can't wait to attempt my hand and some more Indian dishes!!!!!
04/30/2018
The dish was very underwhelming. I had then many spices that I expected to take a season, but it was flavorless.
02/04/2013
Loved it! Made it as per the recipe, served on white rice with na'an. Great season but not too spicy. Delicious, easy and relatively quick. Will be having this again soon I'm sure.
07/04/2018
A family favorite, great served with warm crusty staff of life!
02/27/2014
Good comfort nutrient.
09/27/2017
I left out the republic of chile pepper and cayenne pepper, but information technology was still pretty tasty. Just needed a trivial salt to gustation at the table.
04/20/2017
It was pretty proficient, merely definitely makes a lot of leftovers, plenty for two people the side by side twenty-four hour period. Found information technology took longer to cook the potatoes, maybe an additional 10 minutes. Made with basmati rice and parathas.
01/26/2019
Used 3 sweetness potatoes cubed. Subbed chili pepper for i (4oz) tin of dark-green chopped chilies. Double all the spices at least - it was bland. Added 3 c h2o a little at a time to simmer phase to cook potatoes, took virtually 40 min to cook potatoes. Just cooked onions, beefiness, and all spices except garlic together at the start. Left juice in tomatoes when added. Might add chickpeas next time. Served over brown rice. Comfortably served 6. Large hit with everyone!
06/17/2018
Fabulous. I doubled the potatoes, and made certain to cutting them very minor and then they were able to cook through. Volition definitely brand again.
03/27/2018
First-class!! Such an easy one-pot, allergy-friendly meal! I only substituted spices i didnt have with me on vacation. I omitted the onions (migraines); Instead of the cayenne I used chili powder; Instead of the turmeric I used paprika; Instead of the garam masala I used Penzeys Balti seasoning; and I garnished with cashews, considering why not?? If I brand for company I could stretch it further by serving over rice, as some have suggested. But I honey it and will brand information technology over again!!
05/ten/2017
I added quite a bit more than garam masala, but no other changes, and it was Succulent. Froze a portion because nosotros're a small family, and it was one of those things we were happily anticipating eating again.
12/18/2017
I fabricated it exactly as written except for cilantro, I didn't have whatsoever of that. It was succulent, the recipe well written and piece of cake to make. WOW. thank you, this recipe will be a keeper. And the house smells divine from all of the spices!!
xi/13/2017
It was very skillful. I'm not overly fond of tomatoes so I only used ane can and made upwards the departure with a piffling water.
09/27/2019
Really good! I didnt have peas on mitt, which is unusual because they are my fave, but other than non adding them, I followed exactly, and information technology was delicious
03/29/2018
this is a wonderful, special recipe. it's been my favorite since i starting time tried information technology.
01/20/2019
We absolutely dearest the this dish and really piece of cake. Spice level is perfect for someone that likes medium spice. I'm not a huge fan go chunks of tomato and then i used crushed tomatoes instead of diced.
11/13/2016
My family loved it! Nosotros served it with white rice and naan bread. Very easy to brand and the kids (8 and ten yr olds) liked information technology!
eleven/14/2017
I left out both types of peppers considering my family is wimpy. I thought it was great fifty-fifty without them. I subbed green beans for peas too, out of preference.
12/05/2018
Splendid flavor. Made almost exactly as written except I shortened each stage of cooking past near 5 minutes, and added 1/4 loving cup of water with the peas. Served with Raita it's succulent. Will make over again.
04/05/2017
This is a tasty combination. Next time I'll microwave the potatoes for a few minutes commencement then they cook faster. I had to cook this much longer than the recipe time to get the potatoes to an edible stage. I added a bit of beefiness goop during the process. I'd probably double the spices adjacent time as well as we similar things spicy.
08/17/2018
Mixed ground beef & ground turkey, mixed plain yogurt and coconut milk and served every bit topping. Succulent!
07/27/2017
I will definitely make it once again, it was dandy, a little spicy only good. Too spicy for our kids though. Just added larger quantities of the same spices.
04/06/2018
Overall, very easy to brand and succulent! I halved the recipe and made nearly as written (omitted the serrano because I didn't accept it on hand), just felt the dish could use more tomatoes/sauce. When reheating the next solar day, I added a xiv oz can diced tomatoes (low sodium, unseasoned) and we loved the dish even more. I'm non sure if this should exist on the drier side or non, only would desire more moisture if I served it with Naan, but I served it with Indian Saffron Rice (from this site) and nosotros truly enjoyed the flavors of this dish! Thank you for sharing the recipe!
ten/09/2016
Was soooo good . If you aren't large on spicy foods you might want to hold back a little on the cayenne pepper. I made as written and it was delicious. Just myright for my family simply we similar our nutrient spicy.
02/thirteen/2019
The flavor on this was awesome! And lots of leftovers! I love spicy merely my family is a bit more sensitive...left out the Serrano and halved the cayenne. I'd say that brought it between a mild to medium spice level. Served over basmati rice, and sprinkled fresh cilantro on acme. Like shooting fish in a barrel to brand, slap-up comfort food!!
06/28/2018
I cooked the potato and tomato together for a few minutes ahead of mixing it with the meat. It was DELICIOUS! The kids loved it, so did the hubs...a total win.
02/29/2020
This was fabulous, everyone loved information technology. Left out the cilantro because my husband has a astringent dislike for it. I will make it once again.
12/12/2017
For my dish i used ground craven. My master complaint is the dish was Non very spicy. I doubled down on all the spices including the garlic and chili peppers. The canned tomatoes drown out a lot of the spice. I would recommend eliminating canned tomatoes and cut upwards a very minor corporeality of fresh tomato instead if you really want the tomato plant flavor. As others suggested, definitely cook the potatoes in the microwave earlier you add together them to the dish. That being said, the dish has a lot of potential if you play around with information technology. This is definitely a good starting recipe.
06/17/2016
Have already made this several times and love it! I can't do spicy nutrient so eliminated the hot stuff and it is in my regular rotation. Am trying it with rice tonight. Bully recipe-love the combination of spices.
x/23/2013
I used spray-on coconut oil that I bought from Trader Joe's to saute the onions in my attempt to make it a little less oily/fattening (I Knew the footing beef would yield a lot of oil and fat). I didn't have a pepper or peas just it came out delicious. It'due south a prissy hearty meal for a cold day. Make sure y'all cut the potatoes minor and then they can melt faster.
08/23/2018
It was delicious! This makes a LOT of food (to be fair, I think I added more potatoes than the recipe asked for), so if you lot're making information technology for merely 1-2 people and don't want a lot of leftovers, consider halving the recipe. I'one thousand totally saving this and making information technology again!
06/13/2015
To dice for! We couldn't go enough. Thanks for sharing!
10/28/2015
Always a striking. I double all of the spices except for the cayenne to get in actress flavorful but otherwise perfect. Even excellent with bottled spices if you don't have fresh.
01/30/2020
This is a simple, hearty recipe with tasty Indian flavors. I made a one-half batch and it's about 5-half dozen servings when eaten over rice. Instead of trying to halve a serrano pepper, I just left information technology out and put in the total recipe'due south corporeality of cayenne pepper. To me, beefiness was an odd choice of meat for these flavors, but maybe only because I usually have chicken or vegetarian Indian food.
07/22/2016
Wow! Delicious! Used ground spices except minced garlic. Added cubed cherry potatoes. Actually good!
04/20/2017
Absolutely succulent! So flavorful with the ginger! Had to melt the potatoes much longer than chosen for. The only alterations I fabricated were these: I used only i pound of ground beefiness and added one tin garbanzo beans and 2-3 chopped carrots! It was actually dandy with the beans. I left out the republic of chile pepper (only because I forgot to buy one!) Too, I cut the cayenne in half, and merely put in a half teaspoon and it still had a proficient amount of heat! Honey this recipe!!!
08/26/2019
This was pretty adept! I mostly stuck to the recipe. Used white and sweet potato and canned low-sodium peas. Also left out the common salt. The spices made this really flavorful without having to add extra salt. I'll brand this again just will I crease the amount of spices and add together back-scratch pulverization.
09/08/2014
Family loved this. I could not find garam masala, and then I used Tiki masala instead. I dont like anise and then it worked out pretty skillful for me. I loved all the flavour and I served this on top of Jasmine rice with a side of lycopersicon esculentum, cucumber, onion, olive oil, lemon juice, and table salt salad and a side of plain yogurt. Wonderful!
08/16/2020
My family liked it, but said it need less cayenne. I skipped the Serrano pepper equally I was trying to make a balmy version. I did not drain the footing beef, so I would do that or use ground turkey or lamb.
07/thirteen/2018
Made this for meal prep and other participants loved it likewise!
09/11/2020
This is a nifty dish! So fast to put to together and always accept the ingredients in the pantry. I did omit the cilantro as I'm the only one in the business firm that likes it. As well added more garam masala and spicy fresh peppers equally we dear heat! Makes plenty and great with a ground tofu substitute
08/13/2019
Substituted peas with carrots
06/08/2018
Loved it and volition definitely make this dish again, thanks.
03/22/2019
Great flavor. Added more potatoes for residual.
eleven/thirteen/2017
It was okay. I'k non sure that I'd make it again. I think the texture of the meat afterwards being cooked for then long is what bothered me about this dish. If I were to make it again, I'd employ the same spices only change how I cook everything so the texture is better. Non bad for a change of pace and new flavor contour to play with.
07/28/2020
Great dish . I dearest it
02/19/2013
Awesome recipe merely i retrieve you spelt it wrong its ALOO KEEMA!!!!!!!!!!
09/ten/2020
Loved it! My bf from Karachi enjoyed this recipe and couldn't stop bragging about it to his family unit. This is a keeper.
05/27/2020
Honey this as a hearty one-pot repast! Make in i pot, browning onion, garlic, and pepper, then adding beef to brown. Drain off the fat, and add dorsum water, nigh one cup. Go along as directed. Doesn't demand rice since at that place's white potato in it, serve in a basin with naan and a salad.
06/thirteen/2013
Loved this, fast and easy and simply right spiciness.
06/16/2019
I made this dish because I love east indian food and I like spicey…. Unfortunately, this turned out so incredibly spicey that my 4 grandkids and the other three adults in my house could not finish their plate....way too spicey
04/22/2019
Receipe is spot on! I used ground turkey, fresh garlic and ginger. Came out awesome! Thanks for the detailed task listing!
04/15/2020
Made this for lunch aslope homemade roti. Ran out of fresh coriander, so I used dried coriander leaves plus some stale curry leaves. Used fresh tomatoes instead of canned ones. Swell taste. Would probably use ghee to sauté the onion for more than authentic odor next time if I accept it stocked upwardly.
04/25/2015
Delicious! I substituted back-scratch for the garam masala that was missing from my spice rack. I cut back a bit on the cayenne, and tasted the serrano before I add information technology. It was a fairly mild i. I thought the finished dish had the perfect heat. This recipe would be proficient with basis lamb, too. My family thought we didn't fifty-fifty demand rice. The potatoes were plenty to make it feel like a complete meal.
03/18/2019
My wife and I love Indian food simply it is e'er likewise spicy. I made this dish and omitted the serrano republic of chile pepper and simply put a very modest compression of cayenne pepper in and the flavour was GREAT. The seasoning combination was delicious thank you for sharing this recipe!!!!!!
12/01/2018
So good. My son really liked it. Will brand this more often:)
08/xiii/2015
Nice recipe with lot of flavour and easy to cook. Needed to cook longer on sim I kept my murphy dice bigger . Served with rice .
04/17/2020
